A Brief Introduction To A Hill Fort

The name "castle" has come to be associated with Britain in various senses. In Scotland, it has become associated with the Scottish Highland. In Ireland, the word is associated with the Irish hillforts. But there are few places in Britain that have been called a castle before, and these are Castle Rock in Cumbria, Bournemouth Castle, Chatsworth Castle and Scarborough. Castle Hill can refer to; places where castles are built. The term comes from the medieval days when castles were built at strategic points to protect their occupants from the marauding armies. Most of the castles of the period were built as citadels which served as important administrative centres and even as religious establishments.

When people speak of the hill fort, they are referring to the fortification which stands on top of the hill. This fortification was usually the mainstay of the local inhabitants and the defenders of the town. It was a simple building with a rampart wall and a gate, but even this was often defended by huge stone walls or by barbicans. We have the castles of the English in Ireland, especially the castles at Clonmel and Loughgall. The French call the castle of Montreaux, while the Dutch call the castle of Bannack the Castle of Bannacks. The English have a place of pride in the English Castle, which is in Ayrshire. and in Scotland, the place of pride is the Forth Tower. in Perth.

So, what is a castle hill fort? Well, the place of the castle is not the only thing that can distinguish a place as a castle; many a castle can also be called a hill fort. The location of the fortress and of course, the size and construction of the fortress is very important. The location, however, is sometimes secondary to the style of the structure and its importance. The architecture of the fortress is a very important aspect because the style and the architectural details of the structure are the things that bring it to life.

A good illustration of such an example is the castle at Scarborough in Scotland. This castle has been described as being very traditional. The three stories, wide hall, tall towers and great portico make it a sight to behold. It is a very imposing structure. The large central part of the castle is the central area of the house and it has a very strong central tower that has a large door and has a portcullis all around it. You will find a staircase that leads to the roof and from there to the staircase that leads to the front door.
